Belgium – Phoenix

Captains: Anja Verpoort and Melanie Cortvrindt

Tell us about your programs for this season:
Our programs are made by our choreographer Gert Hofmann. The short program is creepy but also a little bit sneaky. We are all ghosts that try to get in the heads of the spectactors. It is a fast but also a slow catching piece of music.
In the free skate we are exploring the jungle together. That turns into a fight with a lot of drum music which gives us energy. And we are ending with a joyful part where we are all having fun with performing our free program.

Music for your programs
Short Program: This is oh my dear – Two Steps From Hell
Free Program: Totem – Cirque du Soleil

Tell us about your favorite memory as a team, from a competition or otherwise:
We think we have two favorite memories. The first one is when we qualified for the World Championships this season at Winter Cup. The second one is our first big ISU competition, the Budapest Cup. First of all because we were competing against teams that also compete at worlds and this is a very nice experience. And second because we had a great result and we were very happy with our skate.

Tell us a chant that you sing/shout as a team before a competition to get pumped up and ready to compete:
We have a shout that we call ‘The Ninja’. We always do this before we concentrate us for the program. It gives us the opportunity to shout all our nerves away. We also listen to the song ‘Rise like a Phoenix’ in the dressing room. This gives us a big boost before we go on the ice.

Croatia – Zagreb Snowflakes

Captains: Anamarija Kasić and Jana Jambrešić

Tell us about your programs for this season
This season for our short program we are skating to a powerful remix of Amazing Grace by The Five Strings and Alex Boye. Because of the African spirit and drums we chose a blue colour for our skating dresses with details of orange and red. It represents the sunset and the beautiful changing colors of the earth’s sky.
Our free program is little bit different and amazingly interesting program. We skate on compilation of music from the movie The Man from U.N.C.L.E. We will re-do our old dresses and turn in snowflake spies.

Music
Short Program: Amazing Grace – The Five Strings and Alex Boye
Free Skating: Soundtrack from the movie The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Every competition is special and unique for itself. But the best moment was last season on the World Synchronized Skating Championship in Colorado Springs, a few seconds before music for short program started. Nothing can’t compare to those last few words, last few eye contacts and warrior heart beats before you start the battle together. No matter how your team is different, that is one thing no one can take away from you and that is the reason why you love it.

Czech Republic – Team Olympia

Captains: Zuzana Jechová and Samanta Rožánková

Tell us about your programs for this season:
This season, we have two very different programs. Our short program, set to the sultry voice of Amy Winehouse, is full of “bad girl” attitude.
Our free program, on the other hand, brings the traditional folk dance “csárdás”to life on the ice. This program is colourful, expressive and lots of fun!

Music for your programs
Short Program: You Know I’m No Good – Amy Winehouse
Free Program: “Csárdás”

Tell us about your favorite memory as a team, from a competition or otherwise:
Well, we are a very new team (we merged two teams together in September), sowe we have many more to come! But our funniest so far was getting locked out of our hotel in Neuchatel, Switzerland, after a heavy snowfall. Luckily, we eventually got inside to get our competition dresses and get ready for the short program!

Tell us a chant that you sing/shout as a team before a competition to get pumped up and ready to compete:
We don’t really have a chant, but we have a number of rituals. We play “Ninja”, untangle ourselves from knot into a circle, and balance in a circle by sitting on each other’s legs.

Our short program is a special program to us since the music is very personal. The story is about going through the sorrow of losing someone and feeling all the emotions along the way.

Germany – Team Berlin 1

Captains: Aida Aleskerova, Justine Hollmann and Patrick Stein

Tell us about your programs for this season: Our programs should tell stories on the ice. Our short program music is the famous song “Mein Herr” by Ute Lemper, where we want to invite the spectators into the world of cabaret. It matches perfectly with our male skater in the team and the dancing girls around.
Our free program is a mixture of different horror movie soundtracks, which bear upon dolls – wherefore we named the theme “Creepy Dolls”. We hope to give the audience a thrill and send shivers down their spines by watching and listening our program.

Short Program: Mein Herr – Ute Lemper
Free Program: Creepy Dolls

Great Britain – Team Viola

Captains: Sarah Lewis Previous

Tell us about your programs for this season:
The music for the short programme, “Pure Imagination” is taken from the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Using speech for the film itself, we can relate to being dreamers and thinkers, messages which are portrayed by Willy Wonka in the film. We can also relate it to the wider world where events have occurred which were once seen as impossible. For example, the moon landing. This supports that an imagined world can become reality if one’s imagination is powerful enough. This is a concept we try to relate throughout the programme. The music for the free programme is taken from the film Across the Universe. On the ice, we follow the storyline of the film. The first piece of music relates to the struggle of finding your place in society and where we can relate to the formation of our team. The first few months of training, the struggle of finding team members and the trust to let it be. The second piece celebrates overcoming the struggle and coming together as one. The final piece, “all you need is love” is a celebration that we trusted the process, each other and our training.

Free Program: Beatles Medley

Hungary – Team Passion

Captains: Lilla Szabó, Márta Afonyi

Tell us about your programs for this season
Short program theme: PASSIONATE LOVE. Passion is an extremely strong emotion. You can feel it in your very bones, and it’s not easy to get rid of once it’s there. It can even be addicting at times, which is why people say that love can be just like a drug. In our short program, we want to show these feelings on the ice. This is how we feel also about the whole sport.
Free skating theme: SPANISH FEVER
The main theme of our free skating is flamenco which dance is characterized by passion, strength, wildness, yet grace. Ruffled skirts, snapping fingers and stomping feet—these are also the hallmarks of flamenco. They say that the name ‘flamenco’ comes from the word ‘flama’ that means fire. According to this our aim is to burst the ice into flame and to show everyone that our team is full of enthralling spirit and passion. We hope that the music and our performance will make everyone move and clap and we can create the atmosphere of a Spanish feast.
Both programs are choreographed by Andrea Dohány.

Music
Short program: Fifty Shades of Grey (The Weekend: Earned it)
Free skating: Spanish Fever – Mix by Taalbi Bros, Christina Aguilera and Benise

This summer we spent two days at the riverside in a camping as a teambuilding activity. It was the first time for many of us to sleep in a tent and it was also a lot of fun to play different games, to cook outdoor and to go hiking. On a competition there is no better feeling than after a well-succeeded program. You go together to hug each other.

Tell us a chant that you sing/shout as a team before a competition to get pumped up and ready to compete

Tell us about your favorite memory as a team, from a competition or otherwise:
One of our best team experience was performing in the show “Intimissimi on ice” held in the Arena of Verona at the start of the season of the last few years. It’s a magic emotion to skate in an ancient Roman theatre beside olympic champions and famous opera and pop singers. And the best thing was to find out that most of them love and support synchro!

Tell us a chant that you sing/shout as a team before a competition to get pumped up and ready to compete:
In the dressing room before the competition we like to form a tight circle to remind each other the key points of the program and to visualize the correct version of all the elements. Tell us about your programs for this season:
This season, our short program has a ballerina theme, the music is from animation film “Ballerina” and we skate it with proudness and elegance of Ballerinas in mind. Also, the main idea of the program is the quote – it is all about you. It is about us, we connect ourselves with the animation film. In the beginning we, like Ballerina in film, were like knowing nothing about synchro and only with passion, will and strength during these years we are here and will definitely going further to reach our goals. We want to prove to ourselves and others that it is all about us to do our best and show our best at the Worlds this season.

Spain – Team Fusion

Captains: Paula Lopez, Marta Caballero and Maria Antolin

Tell us about your programs for this season:
The short program is about a declaration of love, the guy wants to tell how he feels, the reason he loves her, because she taught him how to love and appreciate the life. He realized that there is a time for everything (love, cry, sing, and live), and he doesn’t know how to live without all of that.
The song of our free program talks about the evolution of success throughout our lives. When you are in glory you feel loved and spoilt for the life, in an “area of love”, bigger than Europe. And when the curtain falls, decadence comes and you feel sunk, without strength, without power.

Music for your programs

Their are a lot of memories of course, but one funny thing this season is that we’ve been very into karaoke… When we were on our way back from Finlandia Trophy we had to go by ferry. We had, of course, already tried the dance floor and karaoke bar on our way to Finlandia, but this time there was a lot of Finnish students on board. The students just sat there right next to the dance floor, starring at us. Our team is not that shy… We took over the dance floor and the karaoke right away. Unfortunately the staff thought that we had sung too much at the end of the evening, so we were forbidden on the kareoke for the rest of the night.
